I’ve been growing increasingly aware as I grow, as America becomes more and more torn with racism, and as I delve deeper into the internet of the difference between our races.
I live in the UK and it is no where near as bad as it is in America. We don’t have random shootings of a black person, or parades for BLM, and if we do it is very rare.
I am young, and for all of my life I have viewed others as my equals. Again, America is much different, but where I love I have grew up alongside people of colour. I have went to school with them, progressed to college and university and I’ve seen people of colour come with me. Yes there are more white people but that’s expected when they’re a majority in the country.
In the “real world” I have never seen racism in person. The only time I have is when I was 7 years old and a young boy sang a song about another not having “wonky eyes” as he was Chinese. I pass people on the street with ease, I habe never witnessed someone being hanged up on simply for the colour of their skin. Does that mean racism doesn’t exist? Of course not.
Through, mainly, Twitter I have became increasingly we are of the injustices black people in particular face. It is wrong. What has been happening in Charlotte’s Ville is absolutely disgusting and I along with many others will not stand for it.
However, I am growing more aware of “White privilege.”
I come from a poor family, everything I own came with struggle. The people on my street grew up with the same struggle, no matter that colour. However, I do realise that in America black people are treated much differently. In the UK, the brute force of racism is directed at Muslims.
I see so much online, when a white person complains about something, people jump down their throat and scream white privilege. Just because someone’s issues don’t seem as big to you doesn’t mean they’re not allowed to have their issues.
White privilege shouldn’t be taken away.
What needs to happen is all the other races need to habe their privileged raised to the same level as white people. For example, white supremacist Nazi’s were seen pushing officers and the officers did not react. Meanwhile officers were closing in on protesters who were no where near the officers. This implies that the supremisists were not being pushed back or arrested simply because they are white and this is probably true. They should have been arrested.
All over I find see support for the protesters. I have noticed several say that white people need to shame and denounce white supremists.
But…isn’t simply known? Why do I, as a white person, need to prove that I disagree with white supremacy simply because in white?
When there is a terrorist attack we encourage Muslims NOT to apologise as it is not their fault.
At the risk of sounding like a whiny white person, why are white people being demonized for being white.
I get it. 50+ years ago black people were enslaved by white people. However, that wasn’t me! I would never do that and I try and use my little voice to support things such as BLM as much as I can. I have fought with white supremisists online but to no avail, they are too ignorant to get through too.
I’m trying to find the right words. It’s really difficult because as a white person in told (online) I can’t complain about race issues.
Why are all the races allowed to stand up for their own except whites? There is so much hatred. We can’t keep using the slavery argument because then we’ll never move forward and isn’t that what we want? I’m not sick of hearing about slavery, trust me. I think it needs to be taught MORE in schools especially. We can never forget what happened. But to blame those who played no part in it, is that fair?
I am white, but I am INNOCENT. We can not have equality if we start demonizing other races. To get equality we can’t stop racism towards black people and divert it towards white. It won’t work. We need unity.
I am white but I am not a WHITE SUPREMACIST. I will continue to fight for people of colour, I will defend anyone as much as I can BUT that doesn’t mean I can’t support white people too. We’re all human, we all habe the same heart, brain and red blood flowing through our veins. Take away our skin and we are the same.
I will stand up for any INJUSTICE even though my voice is too small to be listened too. If someone was receiving abuse for their race (in the real world and online) I would like to think I stand by them.
Stop looking at the stereotypes.
Not all white people are racist Nazi’s.
Not all Hispanics are illegal immigrants.
Not all black people are aggressive criminals.
Not all Muslims are terrorists.
We are all human. We are all the same. ♡
